Please note: Although this site is mainly concerned with English hooliganism it is also concerned with other areas in the UK and the rest of the world!
Dear Robin,
As part of my Cultural Studies in Sport course I have to do a dissertation. My
chose subject is the commercilisation of football hooliganism. That is looking
at the volume of material available on hooliganism, why people buy this
material and view or read it etc etc
I have found little research combining the 2 subjects (which is why Im doing
this study) so i was wondering if u knew of such research that took place or
Brilliant! I tried to contact you a few times recently but there was a problem with your mail address at the time. Your research is ideal for the arguments of my piece and once again I really appreciate your time and help.
1)Do you think that the amount of money being spent on preventing hooliganism is excessive when you yourself have said that worse violence occurs every weekend outside of football?
2) What would you say motivates these men? I believe that it is a realise of te pressures of an increasingly hostile and stressful society would you agree to any extent?
3)How far would you go in saying that alienation from society plays a part in hooliganism?
My name is Denis Povh and I am a student of journalism in Ljubljana!
We ha sociology as a subject and i choosed hooliganism as a research...well it is not quite research cause we must type just 3 pages...but i am very interested in it cause i am also a football fan-not hooligan! Our main source is a Haralambos book Sociology!
I tought that in my research i will write something about history and examples...and i need one or two sociologic looks on hooliganism!
In which way, if it is possible, You can help me?!
Thanks
Denis Povh
P.S. sorry for bad language...
hope to hear you soon
Why brand all hooligans as English, when the hooligan element is alive and kicking in Wales and Scotland!
Have you not included the Welsh hooligans beacuse they play in the English league? I`m Welsh and as much as I detest the hooligan faction,it is`nt just an English problem,it`s a UK wide problem.
I`m not tyring to be pedantic, please beleive me when I say that, but to tackle the problem for England is`nt going to sort out the problems elsewhere in the UK.Please recognise that hooliganism may have been born in England, but it`s been "exported" to pretty much all the clubs in the UK,be they Welsh or Scottish
Yours Sincerely
Tom Sanders
Hello mate,
my names lee and currently serving in the royal navy. i have been asked to priduce a brief on football violence concentrating on all the sorts of "crews". i would be gratefull for any sites containing any information . cheers..................
I am in my final year of a sports science degree in Plymouth. I am currently writing my dissertation looking at the links between football hooliganism and players behaviour and performance on the pitch. If you have any information that you think may be of use to me, or have ideas of how I may be able to improve my research, then your input would be much appreciated.
I am currently studying for a Higher National Diploma in Sport and Exercise Therapy at the Somerset College of Arts and Technology.
As a major element of the course, I am required to produce a 10,000 word Dissertation on a topic of my choice. For this, I have chosen to concentrate on the ongoing issue of racism in football.
As a Match Day Steward for Charlton Athletic, I am aware of some of the issues which are both being addressed by the club and by the Football Association, but I would appreciate, however, if you could send me any information or research which you may have on the issue of racism in football.
http://www.hooligansfootball.homestead.com. First, allow me say that it is wonderful web site and I can not wait to explore it. I have just begun a research project, having chosen Football Hooliganism as a broad topic and the police force's affect on Hooliganism's
decline (or rise, depending on what my research reveals) as a narrowed topic. I am currently gathering research from many different sources (only one of which may be an Internet site). However, I working on a limited time scale and am concerned about three
things. One, I am worried that I may not be able to sort through all of the information on your excellent web page (as I am also busy playing football myself).
Second, my instructor has stressed the importance of using only valid web sites as sources. I have no doubts about the validity of your web site. A number of requirements must be met in order for a site to be reputable, many of which I was able to find on your home page. It is my concern that since I am from the Unites States, my instructor may not allow the use of
your site (a truly horrible thing in my eyes). So, if possible, could you please help me clear up any confusion about your site by sending me all of the affiliations your site holds.
Lastly, as I mentioned before, I am from the United States and am having trouble locating books about Hooliganism. If you know of any books that have been published in the U.S. or internationally, it would be a great help if you could reply with the titles and authors or universities that have written them. (I have been able to find the two book by Martin King and
Martin Knight: Hoolifan, 30 Years of Hurt; and The Naughty Nineties, Football's Homecoming)
I would like to thank you now for any help you can provide me. If you think that there is anything that Ihave overlook or any vital information about Football Hooliganism that I need to know.
I am an argentine social researcher - football violence - and I have seen on the web your interesting page. I have to do a brief about how England, Spain, Italy and France are trying nowadays to stop the violence in footbal. Do you know where I could find any information?! Any help from you will be very important for me.
